Spread across an exhibition area of 180,000 square yards, the BEC is inclusive of six pavilions without any interruptive columns. Apart from the six pavilions, the BEC has a Congress centre covering an area of about 18,000 square metres which is ideal for conventions, seminars, celebrations as well as private functions. The BEC Convention includes 12 halls with a capacity to cater to over 2,500 attendees.
Other facilities include the popular multi-purpose Bizkaia Arena which has a capacity to accommodate 26,000 people and can also be transformed into a theatre with a capacity for over 10,000 people, a sports hall that can seat around 18,000, a cinema hall for 13,000 and a concert hall for 20,000 people. With open gardens and paved areas of about 100,000 square metres and an interior access of 6500 square metres, the BEC has been the choice of numerous exhibitors, cultural groups as well as individuals.
The BEC was a busy place this year with innumerable bookings comprising of an array of events, concerts and meetings. Upcoming events to look forward to include the Bilove Music Festival on the 27th of September and Supercross and Expobodas which will happen on the 12th and 19th of October respectively. Also in line are the GEO2 which will run for four days from the 4th to 7th of November; the Concierto de Miguel Bosé on December 6th and the Desembalaje on the 13th and 14th December.
The BEC's infrastructure has been cleverly built with a parking space for almost 4,000 vehicles. While it has integrated essential services like public telephone booths, intercom facilities and mobile telephony; data related infrastructure like LAN, Internet /Intranet and Public information points are also up-to-the-mark. While video services like graphic screens, video scoreboards and video screens are among the various facilities it provides, security has also been considered with CCTV fixtures and intruder and access control measures.
Giving both exhibitors and visitors full value for their money, the BEC is inclusive of À la carte restaurant and self-service restaurants with a capacity of over 1,000 diners. Also, every hall has a cafeteria. The Motorways airport and mainline railway station in central Bilbao is connected to the underground Metro line which can take visitors to the BEC within ten minutes. Such easy accessibility to this renowned venue put together with its state-of-the-art communication systems adds to the glory of the BEC. Accommodation is hardly a reason to worry in Bilbao as the area has innumerable hotels, guesthouses and lodges that can cater to all budgets and standards.
Considering the fact that the BEC is second to none in terms of infrastructure, appeal and customer services, it is not surprising to note that it has many bookings for the year 2009 with events like Tendencias in January end, Expovacaciones - Expoconsumo - CreaModa in April, Foccus in October and Algusto in December among others.
