Jersey is located strategically near the southern coast of Britain and the northern coast of France. The history that has been recorded in Jersey is thousands of years old. Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements can still be found in Jersey. Its culture was also influenced by Roman settlements and Viking heritage played a part in its history when it was called Angia, under the control of Brittany.

Jersey is a place that is small enough to be visited in a short span of time and large enough to pique the interests of tourists and there are many flights to and from Jersey, owing to its huge airport. The heritage in Jersey is rich and it has got quite a number of tourist attractions too. Some of its major attractions are the central market, Occupation tapestry, Island fortress occupation museum, Jersey Maritime museum, Jersey war tunnels, Jersey lavender farm, Battle of Flowers, Shell garden, Elizabeth Castle and more than anything else, the Jersey airport itself. With all this, and dotted with French beaches, Jersey is the dream spot for any tourist who wishes to stay for a short time or even a long vacation.

The airport in Jersey itself has an interesting history. The airport in Jersey was constructed in and after 1937 only. Before that, flights to Jersey used to land in the beaches at St. Aubin's Bay. Only in 1937, Jersey had an airport with grass runways. This airport was constructed mainly because the air service before that depended on the tide and it was unpredictable. The grass runways were upgraded in the 1950s, during the Second World War. The Luftwaffe used the airport at Jersey for take-off and landing. The airport building that was commissioned in 1937 had only two hangars and one terminal building. But as the time went by, many improvements were made in the Jersey airport during the Second World War, many hangars and taxiways were built and over the years, runways have been lengthened to a large extent. Today, Jersey airport is one of the busiest airports and about 20,000 visitors every year flock to Jersey through airways every year.

Jersey airport is one of the most strategic investments which the state ever made. The airport provided a gateway for the development of many other industries like commerce, finance, tourism, trade, and many other industries in Jersey. The Jersey airport has been providing very small transport links which measure just nine by five miles, earning the envy of most other islands. From the time the extra runways were built and the runways lengthened and developed, Jersey airport has been among the busiest airports in the whole World. It will be 75 years old in 2012 and yet, the airport at Jersey is grabbing opportunities always and is still "open for business". This status of the airport reflects its optimism and flexibility and in the near future, the Jersey airport, more than anything else in Jersey, will leave a lasting impression on the mind of the tourists.
