If history is right up there on your list of preferences, then heading to the Westminster Abbey immediately after you arrive at the majestic Heathrow airport is recommended. Here, you will marvel at the traditional architecture, and also see the places where many famous names are interred. The Westminster Abbey is in essence a working church that saw the likes of Isaac Newton and Henry the third buried here apart from many other well known kings and poets.

If relaxing at a park is your remedy to have a break, make sure you visit St. James Park, Regents and Hyde Park as these parks are a sight to behold. With its stunning trails and gardens, these parks also offer various recreational activities such as model sail boating, football, tennis etc. Other notable parks include the Kensington Gardens and the Japanese Gardens. The Covent Garden is another place you would like to visit, although it isn't really a garden at all. It's an area where a variety of theaters, pubs, shops, street performers and restaurant are present. The Royal Opera House is also located here.
If your idea of a holiday break is to shop your heart out, then you must make a visit to some of London's best outdoor markets like Borough market and Portobello Road. An eclectic mix of food, antiques and people, these unusually interesting markets will give you the feel of being in Morocco. Also West End is chock o block with the best pubs and restaurants and a visit here is a must.

The museums of London are extremely diverse ranging from history museums to science museums. The British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tower of London are some of the most notable ones.

Travelling in any of the highly efficient public transport systems is your best bet to break away from clutches of overcharging cabs.

From the airport, you could take the Express line that begins from Terminal 5 and passes the central terminals area and finally reaches its end destination - Paddington. Travel time would be 15 minutes from Heathrow Airport to Paddington.

Make sure you take a ride in London's underground tube. It leaves from the Heathrow airport and halts at every terminal in the airport. Travel time would be 45 minutes because of the frequent stops but this route takes you directly to the heart of London - Piccadilly Circus.

Whatever form of transport you take from the airport, taking a well deserved break in London will guarantee you fun, frolic and adventure.
