Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is New York City's official airport. It is one of the busiest airports in the world catering to more than 30 million passengers each year, having 9 terminals, and serving 80 airlines. If you plan on taking a holiday break in New York City, you could either choose to land in JFK airport or the LaGuardia airport in Newark, New Jersey.

Location:
The airport is situated at a distance of 15 miles from the New York City centre in Queensborough. The JFK airport allows many private and public transportation agencies to operate to and from the airport for those people who do not their own private mode of transport.

About the terminals:
There is one main terminal and all the other terminals surround it. Such is the organization of the JFK airport, each terminal's parking lot is color coded. This makes differentiation of the parking lots easier. If you are flying out of NYC on a holiday break or for business, make sure you leave sufficient time for travel inside the airport as getting from one terminal to the other can take a lot of time. Also, find out in advance if there are any restrictions in parking or closures of parking lots lest you get delayed because of it. The best and quickest way to travel between the terminals and parking lots is by using the free services of the airport such as AirTran and AutoLink. There are also buses that take passengers but the airline must arrange for it first. The only time when you need to open your wallet/purse to pay for transportation in the JFK airport is when you take a cab.

Transportation:
There are many transportation agencies that give tourists on a holiday break in NYC the chance to catch the sights and sounds of the city. You can choose to either go by taxi and view NYC in all its glory or travel in style by hiring a limousine. There are many public transportation options available too that help you break away from overpriced cabs and limos. On the ground floor of every terminal, there are transportation booths that give you all the possible transportation related information you need.

The amenities JFK provides:
There are plenty of things to do in JFK when you want to take a break during your transit time. You can eat and drink at the many cafes, purchase a newspaper or a book at the many bookstores, withdraw cash from an ATM, visit one of the many chapels, get student assistance, exchange your currency, shine your shoes, purchase chocolates and a bouquet of flowers for your lover, have a video conference with your colleagues, look up information on NYC accommodation etc. Sometimes, you may not even need to step out of the airport.

If you are flying in or out of the John F. Kennedy airport, make sure you take full advantage and try out all the services this place has to offer.
